Health Minister Acknowleges Lack of Chronic Pain Service at PMH

I have had a letter from the Minister for Health The Hon Dr Kim Hames regarding the need for a dedicated pain unit at PMH.

In this letter the Minister acknowledges the lack of service at PMH:

“I recognise that chronic pain and complex pain is a significant issue in Child and Adolescent Health Services and that PMH does not have a dedicated service for children and adults with this condition.”

The Minister also acknowleges that the services are currently spread across several departments with no intergrated service.

“I am advised that chronic pain and complex pain is currently managed across many specialities at PMH…”

The Minister acknowleges the lack of a dedicated specialist pain service for Western Australian children but he does not say what the plans are to remedy the situation.
